What is Testosterone?
It is a male hormone, which the body starts preparing in childhood and when the production in the body reaches the natural limits, a child becomes a full-grown man. This is responsible for dense hair growth on the body (beard and mustaches) and development of the reproductive organs. The production of sperm is due to this hormone.
The production of this hormone is also affected by heavy smoking and in obese men the decreased production of male hormones is responsible for poor bone strength, loss of memory, poor or low memory, anxiety and loss of sexual ability. Thus, testosterone has a direct link with the memory and daily activity in males.
Ayurveda has suggested that after reaching the optimum level of testosterone production in the body, i.e., when the body reaches maximum production level, usually the young males at this stage may experience nocturnal emissions once or twice in a month, which shows the male has matured and is healthy for reproduction.
After this stage, it starts decreasing 1 to 2% per year and comes down to the level of 50% at the age of 50 years in normal conditions. This stage in males can be compared with Menopause stage in females. As women reach the stage of menopause with passage of time, similarly, men also reach the stage, which is known as Andropause (a condition with a clear distinct drop in testosterone hormone in men in the age group of 45 and above, which can cause complications including weak bones and cardiac problems and other ill effects.)
According to the Ayurveda, after the age of forty the production of male sex hormone (testosterone) in males starts decreasing more rapidly, which causes the problems of lack of desire for sex, irritation, loss of appetite, tension, anxiety, pain of bones and joints and increase in deposition of fats. These symptoms are known as Androgen deficiency in aging males. Though, it is compared with the menopause, sperm can remain active up to age 65-75, or more.
Science is still not sure about the exact difference between menopause in women and Andropause in men because men slowly reach this stage without any noticeable symptoms. However, this should not be considered a sign of old age, but a deficiency of male hormones. This can be fixed with an herbal dietary supplement without using synthetic male hormones.
The Prost-aid formulation is based on the Tibetan beliefs that if taken daily with 2 parts butter and 1 part honey, or vice versa, a man’s active (young) life span may reach 100 years.
What is Ayurveda?
Ayurveda is the traditional medicine and natural healing system of India. Its foundation comes from the Vedic Era around 5000 years ago. Ayurveda is one of the most comprehensive healing systems in the world, dealing integrally with body, mind and spirit. Ayurveda has classified the body system according to the theory of Tridosha to overcome all ailments by eliminating the basic cause.
The basic objective of Ayurveda is to educate people on how to take care of their health themselves and increase longevity. One can achieve this goal by monitoring and balancing one’s nutritional diet and life style. This system is related to the soul, body & mind simultaneously.
